We “heart” red decor

February is American Heart Awareness Month and Thompson Thomas Design is bringing you design inspiration that helps raise awareness and celebrate a healthy heart with some nods to the color red. We suggest- don’t just wear it- LIVE IT!

The color red is powerful, passionate and dramatic. To take on adding it into your home is a daunting feat for most- it’s strong so it needs to be treated with respect!

Our design tips…

Red is stimulating-avoid using it in rooms where you want to relax, so try it in a kitchen, exercise room or craft room to stimulate the brain and senses.

A little can go a long way-incorporate it into your home with fun accents, pattern & texture, or break it up and dilute it with neutrals.

For drama, try it with an analogous color (adjacent to one another) on the color wheel. Use orangey or purple-reds to create a striking space but keep in mind that bold, dark colors will make a space look smaller. Try it in a girl’s bedroom for some fun and whimsy.

Red is inspiring- use fine art for your foundation. Matisse, who painted Harmony in Red (The Red Room), saw the energy in a red room several hundred years ago! Get inspired by his painting by designing your room with his colors and vibrant, bold style:

Thompson & Thomas Design has been busy the year of 2011 growing our portfolio, transforming homes throughout Denver and making a mark for ourselves in local publications and television- all whilst overhauling an industrial building to make it a creative and chic new home-place for our office and studio. The year of 2012 continues this overhaul by joining the masses and entering the world of blogging. So at last, there is a moment to breathe and bring to the web what we do best- designing custom lifestyles!
